Colombian Volcano Appeal Benefit Concert: David Gilmour 9.2.1986 London, Royal Albert Hall

David Gilmour trat beim Benefizkonzert Colombian Volcano Appeal Benefit Concert am 9. Februar 1986 in der Royal Albert Hall auf. Das Konzert wurde vom Musiker Chucho Merchan organisiert, um Geld für den Nevada Del Ruiz Disaster Appeal Fund zu sammeln. Die Spenden und Einnahmen kamen den Opfern des verheerenden Vulkanausbruchs in Kolumbien, der sich im November 1985 ereignete, 25.000 Menschen starben und 50.000 wurden obdachlos und große Zerstörungen verursachte, zugute.

Gilmour war einer der Headliner der Veranstaltung. Er trat mit großartiger Band auf: John „Rabbit“ Bundrick, Michael Kamen, Jodi Linscott, Chucho Merchan, Sam Brown, Billy Nichols, Simon Phillips am Schlagzeug und Mick Ralphs war ebenfalls mit seiner Gitarre dabei.

The Columbian Volcano Concert—VHS

Die Veranstaltung wurde von Eel Pie unter der Regie von Keefe McMillan aufgezeichnet und am 20. Juli 1988 um 23:15 Uhr in der Fernsehsendung „The Laste Shift” auf Channel 4 ausgestrahlt. Eine 87-minütige Version des Konzerts wurde auf VHS-Video unter dem Titel „The Columbian Volcano Concert” veröffentlicht.

Es war großartig, als ich die VHS-Kassette von diesem Konzert einlegte und zum ersten Male The Wall Songs in (damals) super Qualität „Live in Concert“ sehen durfte. Gilmour spielte eine Hammer-Version von Comfortably Numb, die ich mir heute immer wieder mal anhöre. Bei Out Of The Blue überließ er Ralphs das Solo und er selbst spielt Piano. Cool. You Know I’m Right fehlt auf der VHS. Ich erfuhr erst Jahre später davon, das er diesen Song gespielt hat.
