Bericht und Fotos von Bas Swanenberg

3.8.2006: We travelled from Austria from where we saw the concerts in Clam and Munich To Florence to see our last concert of David Gilmour this holiday. Still deeply impressed by the earlier concerts we were totally unexpected sitting. On the second row in Clam right in front of the stage I never was so close for a whole Show during this tour it was unbelievable concert for us two new songs Astronomy domine for us was a real highlight  with the laser show and after that for Syd Dark Globe!! And two days later again in the rain this time it didn’t matter.

We arrived early in Florence also for some sightseeing in the city but first we went to the Piazza Santa Croce Where the last sound checking was going on. Luckily for us this stage was secure, I would in tatters if this show was cancelled. After taking more than a few pictures we went to see the other David in Florence and some other nice things. Just before 7 we went back to the piazza where it was a madhouse many people shouting Pink Floyd and clapping I was a bit worried that thy would do that during the show too but no this was the best audience I saw on this tour.

All of them singing together Shine on you crazy diamond and after that Wish you were here was unbelievable. We got in very easy you could take anything in you like many had big professional cameras and video recorders. So I think there will be some dvd’s out soon on the net. After we found our seats and some large bloke came sitting in front of me occupying two seats we couldn’t see anything. So we took our bags and took position on gallery we were sitting very uncomfortable but had perfect view and a lot closer too! From the first set I like the song Then I close my eyes more and more it has everything David Gilmour uses four or five different guitars And than Dick Parry with the sax coming in was one of mine highlights.

After the long pause again Astronomy Domine and a unique Echoes 25 min partly in the dark it can’t be long enough for me! And after a last Comfortably Numb we had to leave in a hurry to catch the last train to Signa shame to leave such a city in Such a rush this was because the concert took so long starting at 9.04 and ending at 00.10. But we made it in the nick of time to the station the train was packed with nothing but fans, I think some left early before the end That I could never do! After a short sleep (I can’t sleep at all after a David Gilmour concert) we took the long way home to The Netherlands We had The best holiday ever seeing five concerts 2x Roger Waters and 3x David Gilmour and being in the arena in Pompeij where my favourite Pink Floyd Video was shot I think this was a once in a lifetime experience an we certainly never forget this tour the Floyd!!

We want to say a big thank you to Werner Haider and his wife and friends for the good company and their lifts to the Clam and Munich concerts!!
