On an Island Tour: David Gilmour über sein Live in Gdansk Album

14.8.2008: David Gilmour hat sich gegenüber dem Billboard Magazin erstmals ausführlicher über sein neues Livealbum geäußert. Ursprünglich wollte Gilmour eine Selektion verschiedener Songs von verschiedenen Konzerten verwenden. Doch mit der Zeit stellt er fest, das die meisten “besten” Versionen ohnehin von seinem letzten Konzert in Danzig stammten.

David Gilmour: The original intention was to make a live album out of the whole tour, selecting different songs from different nights. But so many of the best ones just seemed to come from that last night in Gdansk that in the end we thought, ‘Oh, we’ll just do the whole thing from Gdansk.

Er bestätigte außerdem, das die “On An Island Tour 2006”, von allen Tourneen, an denen er beteiligt war, die schönste Tour war!

David Gilmour: It was the most satisfying and enjoyable experience in my touring life. I think on the last solo record (‘About Face’) I made back in ’84, I was a bit nervous about the Pink Floyd thing and wanted to stay away from it, whereas most of what the Pink Floyd thing is is a sound that I love. On (‘On An Island’) I finally got to a place where I felt free from any pressure either way from that whole specter.

Zu Pink Floyd möchte er nicht mehr zurückkehren; das interessiert ihn eigentlich nicht mehr. Er hat noch keine genauen Pläne, wie es weitergehen wird. Zuerst will er dieses Livealbum veröffentlichen. Erst danach wird er sich mit einem neuen Projekt beschäftigen. Von den “On An Island” Sessions ist sehr viel gutes “Material” übrig geblieben, alles sehr gute Ausgangspunkte für etwas Neues!

David Gilmour: I want to get (‘Live in Gdansk’) completely put to bed before I even worry about anything new. I’ve got a lot of material left over from (‘On An Island’), so … I’ve got a lot of start points. That starts to get the creative juices flowing and you stary then to write new material. So it’s good to have bits of music to start working on, but how many of them I will actually use and how much new stuff will come up is anyone’s guess. That’s in the lap of the gods.
