The third annual
Classic Rock Roll Of Honours were held last
night (Monday, November 5, 2007), with Led
Zeppelin's Jimmy Page receiving the Living
Legend Award.
The legendary guitarist - who last week
fractured his finger causing the long
awaited Led Zeppelin reunion concert to be
postponed (read more) - was presented with
the gong at the at the awards ceremony last
night (November 5) at London's Landmark
Hotel.
Fellow rocker and Aerosmith frontman
Steven Tyler presented Page with the award
and a Gibson Les Paul - the guitar
Page made famous - signed by Les Paul
himself.
The presentation was followed by an
extensive video of Page's life with Zeppelin
frontman and Page's long term partner Robert
Plant, guitar legend Les Paul and Elvis'
guitarist Scotty Moore all paying tribute to
their friend.
An overwhelmed Page gushed, "It's really
quite something, the speech Steve Tyler gave
was superb and I thought I could handle it
but seeing all that imagery of my life?
"It just comes down to one thing really - a
kid who's really into Rock N Roll. Rock N
Roll took me as a hostage as opposed to the
other way round. It's the same with kids
today."
Elsewhere and Status Quo picked up the 'Classic
Songwriter's' gong, Black Sabbath's Tony
Iommi won the 'Metal Guru' title and Meat
Loaf - who failed to attend after falling
ill - was honoured with the 'Classic Album'
award for his seminal 1977 album 'Bat Out Of
Hell', which has exceeded over 34 million
sales to date.
Meanwhile Pink Floyd's Nick Mason took to
the stage to honour his long-term
collaborator and graphic legend Storm
Thorgerson - who famously designed Pink
Floyd's iconic 'Dark Side Of The Moon' cover
- with an 'Outstanding Contribution' award.
The Readers Awards - as voted for by the
magazine's users - saw Kiss receive 'Reissue
Of The Year' for their 'Alive! 1975 - 2000'
album, which Guns N Roses/ Velvet Revolver
bassist Duff McKagan collected, and
Aerosmith picked up the Event of the Year
gong for Aerosmith's Hyde Park extravaganza
(beating the hot favourite - Keith Richards
snorting his Dad's ashes).
