Pink Floyd geben Musik frei.

22.12.2006 UPDATE: Ein kurzes Interview gab es von Eric Prydz im Daily Record zu lesen.

WHAT attracted you to covering Pink Floyd?

ERIC PRYDZ: I WAS a massive fan of the original record, as I think most people are. I was listening to it at home one day and thought there were elements in it that could work really well on a dancefloor. I decided to make a version just for myself. It was going to be track that only I had and could play out. I'd never intended for it to get a proper release. But after seeing the reaction it was getting, I decided there was enough demand to try and put it out. It was ridiculous - there were so many people trying to get hold of copies.

THIS is the first time Floyd have granted permission for one of their songs to be sampled, how difficult was it to get it approved?

ERIC PRYDZ: IT wasn't necessarily difficult but it was a long process. The band liked what I had done and that was half of the battle won, I guess.

HAVE you heard what the band think of the track?

ERIC PRYDZ: I HAVEN'T dealt much with the band myself, my manager has been handling it but they wouldn't have cleared the sample if they didn't like the record.

IS there a video accompanying the song as sexy as the video for Call on Me?

ERIC PRYDZ: THE video for Proper Education is very different to Call On Me. There was a lot of anticipation around this release and I really didn't want to just do more of the same. Pink Floyd would always use their videos to get a message across and I really wanted to carry on this spirit. This video is set in a London estate and features a gang of kids breaking into local flats and, at first, you think they're about to burgle them. But, actually, they are switching appliances off standby, changing light bulbs for energy efficient alternatives, alongside a series of other energy-saving measures. I'd been reading so much in the press about climate change and global warming recently, and felt it would be great to try and empower people to do something about it. It's not making grand statement. It's just simply saying everyone can do a little and it will make a difference.

Their energy saving antics also include turning appliances off stand-by and putting bricks in toilet cisterns so less water is used. It ends with the message: 'You don't need an education to save the planet.' The track, called 'Proper Education', is a remix of Pink Floyd's Another Brick In The Wall while the video focuses on climate change and the issues around global warming.

Prydz said: 'There was a lot of anticipation around this video and I was really keen to do something a bit different. Pink Floyd would always use their videos to get a message across and I really wanted to carry on this spirit. I'd been reading so much in the press about climate change and global warming recently and felt it would be great to try and empower people to do something about it. It's not making a grand statement. 'It's just simply saying everyone can do a little and it will make a difference. 'It would be great to have another hit. Even more so if it means we're getting the video's message across to as many people as possible.'

Januar. Prydz hatte vor zwei Jahren mit einem Sample aus Stevie Windwoods “Call On Me” einen Nummer 1-Hit in Großbritannien.
