Listen to the interview in full and find out more about David Gilmour's new album, 'On An Island', the star names he's collaborated with on the album, why he won't reform Pink Floyd and more.

On preparing for his tour, turning 60 and releasing his new album, 'On An Island' on his birthday, adapting his lifestyle. the pressures behind recording, releasing and promoting the album and the inspiration behind the song 'On An Island'.

DAVID GILMOUR: "...I've kind of made this fuss of putting (the album) out on my birthday and we decided that, obviously, months ago - it feels like I've been 60 for six months (laughs) ever since we decided we'd put it out then so it's a way of getting over that sticky little hump." Listen to the interview

On why he's releasing the album on vinyl, the influence of Pink Floyd's, 'The Division Bell' on his latest album, collaborating with David Crosby, Graham Nash, Georgie Fame and Phil Manzanera.

DAVID GILMOUR: "Polly, my wife, is writing words on this album and she wrote words on 'The Division Bell' as well, in the earlier flowering of our romance so a lot of the same team are involved in it...it's not hard to see the line flowing from there to now." Listen

On Live 8, reuniting with the other members of Pink Floyd at Live 8 and how rumours about the band performing again aren't true, his least favourite era of Pink Floyd, new track 'The Blue'.

DAVID GILMOUR: "My least favourite era was the period after 'The Wall' album i.e the making of The Wall film and 'The Final Cut' album was a real low moment in life for me...because the atmosphere within the band was so unpleasant. Our legal and financial situations outside the band was in absolute shit - 'scuse me - and it was a very dark period. Personally I wasn't having a great time either."  Listen

On his guitar collection, his favourite Stratocaster and his new track 'This Heaven'.

DAVID GILMOUR: "I have got quite a large guitar collection. It was a sort of youthful foolishness I think. I'm compunded by my guitar roadie chap, Phil, who was very keen to seek out all these things and I have 20 or so guitars that I play regularly that I have to have and then there's a whole pile of other stuff that I've used once or played a couple of times and they just sit in storage basically so the whole thing is a bit of a waste of time. I'm going to get around to selling them one of these days. I shall sell them and give the money to a good cause or something..." Listen

On his donations to charity, why he's moved to donate, his own charity work, how Pink Floyd and his solo work has influenced pop music and how Elvis and 'Heartbreak Hotel' first turned him on to music.

DAVID GILMOUR: "I'm just extraordinarily lucky. My good fortune, I don't feel, is something that is mine by any particular right. I think it's more by luck than aything else and I've got more than I need and there's an awful lot of things that need supporting." Listen

On how Hank Marvin has influenced his guitar playing, other musical influences, playing the saxaphone, his touring band, playing the Royal Albert Hall, being the father to 8 children and their music taste and flying his bi-plane.

DAVID GILMOUR: "Hank Marvin was a big influence on my playing in the early days... I can still see a direct link between the way I play and what Hank did because he played melodies on it ... I try to sing a melody on the guitar and an awful lot of guitar solos I hear just come from some other department..." Listen

On life after the tour, reading the critics' reviews, married life and album closer 'Where We Start'.

DAVID GILMOUR: "I'm afraid I do torture myself with (reviews) - I will, you know, send a boxing glove in a box to anyone who gives me a bad review (laughs)...Listen
