Just back from the States. Where are you right now? DAVID GILMOUR: Where I want to be. What were you doing 20 years ago? DAVID GILMOUR: Moving from a house where I´d had a studio to one where I didn`t have a studio, and preparing to start work on Pink Floyds A Momentary Lapse Of Reason Album. It was a bit daunting at the time. What car were you driving? And did you own a mobile phone? DAVID GILMOUR: At a guess, probably a BMW. I dabbled in motor cars a bit in the periode after that, but I´ve grown out of it since then. I first had a car phone in the late 70´s. You could take them about three feet away from the car before they stopped working. They were appalling. What´s your highpoint of the last 20 years? DAVID GILMOUR: Meeting Polly and marrying her. And the low point? DAVID GILMOUR: There were a lots in the middle and late ´80s, allied with some high points. Nothing that I´d weep about now. Would any of those low points have involved ex-Floyd bassist Roger Waters? DAVID GILMOUR: Yes, that would be the obvious answer, though. About 20 years ago there were an awful lot of legal meetings and legal phone calls just as we were trying to make a new record, which were all verry distracting and debilitating. Did you ever regret starting Pink Floyd up again? DAVID GILMOUR: No, I never regretted starting up Pink Floyd again. My own confidence was always there. It was just building up the confidence of the people around me that was harder. I´m a bushy sort of person and the other two (fellow members Rick Wright and Nick Mason) are not. You have reputation for being very protective of your privacy .... DAVID GILMOUR; Yes. I´m not rude to fans, but I´m quite short with people I dont want to strike up conversations with. If I´m in a good mood I´ll sign autographs, but usually I wont even do that. The majority of Pink Floyd Fans are wonderful, non instrusive people, but i think the mad edge of our fans is worse than those of any other band. What was the first album you bought on CD? DAVID GILMOUR: I bought a CD player as soon as they came out, but I imagine the first CD would be something I used to have on vinyl. I was always very bad at vinyl. Mine were always lying on the floor with cat hairs and footprints and scratches all over them. So i loved the idea of CDs. And the first track you downloaded? DAVID GILMOUR: I dont think I have. Polly has, but not me. Which songs do you wish you´d written? DAVID GILMOUR: My Drug Buddy by the Lemonheads... But probably shouldnt say that... Why? DAVID GILMOUR: No, I cant say. I really liked Evan Dando and the Lemonheads. Its A Shame About Ray is a great Album. Your biggest fashion disaster? DAVID GILMOUR: The middle `80s were pretty disastrous fashion and hairwise for me. I dont think anything was suiting me particularly. I didnt quite have a mullet, hough. What´s the single biggest thing that´s changed for you? DAVID GILMOUR: My marriage and children, and the growing feeling of acceptance of the way the life is. I dont know whether I had my midlife crisis in the middle of my life, and this was brought by very real situations. I certainly had a few wild weekends. What made you stop? DAVID GILMOUR: My wife, Polly, told me to stop. If you could talk to yourself 20 years ago, what advice would you give? DAVID GILMOUR: Stop taking cocaine. I havent touched it for 13, 14 years. But looking back I can`t think of a single redeeming feature that it has, whereas I can with everything else. I got divorced and went on the razzle and it all coincided with the Floyd coming back. What´s the best thing you bought in the last 20 years? DAVID GILMOUR: The farm that we life now on. We´ve been there for 12 years now. Where will you be in 20 minutes? DAVID GILMOUR: Down the road a piece. Info: A Fleeting Glimpse, Senna, Clemens |
