Hans Gerlitz: Ende des Jahres gab es eine Theater-Premiere der Ca
Ira in Poznan. Als Programmheft wurde ein schönes ca. 20x20 cm
Paperback Buch herausgegeben, mit 88 Seiten. Ca 24 davon sind mit Infos
und farbigen Fotos von der Freilichtpremiere. Den Rest belegt Libretto
und einige s/w Fotos. Das ganze in Polnisch, das Libretto in Polnisch
und Englisch. Sehr schön gemacht.

Die Revolutionsoper "Ca Ira" (auf Deutsch "Es wird schon werden") des britischen Altrockers Roger Waters (62), Gründer der legendären Rockgruppe "Pink Floyd", ist gestern im polnischen Posen uraufgeführt worden.
Regisseur Janusz Jozefowicz inszenierte die Opernfassung des Klassik-Albums, die den Arbeiteraufstand von 1956 im westpolnischen Posen zum Inhalt hat, als Open-Air-Aufführung vor 12.000 Zuschauern.
Teil der Inszenierung sind Filme und Fotos über Revolutionen und deren Unterdrückung von der Französischen Revolution bis zur Gegenwart.
Die umgerechnet 1,4 Mio. Euro teure Produktion mit 382 Mitwirkenden soll 2007 auf Europa-Tournee gehen. Geplant sind 16 Freilichtaufführungen und eine in der Posener Oper.

Am Morgen, nachdem die Oper „Ça ira“ von Roger Waters im November 2005 in Rom konzertant uraufgeführt worden war, hämmerte jemand an die Hoteltür des ehemaligen Pink-Floyd-Frontmanns und erklärte, unten würden ein paar Polen warten, die ihn sprechen wollten.
„Was wollen die?“, fragte Waters, der Bote antwortete: „Sie wollen Ihre Oper auf die Bühne bringen, in Posen, im nächsten
Sommer.“ Und Waters befand: „Im Sommer? Nächstes Jahr? Sind Sie verrückt? Das ist unmöglich.“ Unten warteten Regisseur
Janusz Jósefowicz und Produzent Marek Szpendowski - und mit ihrem Enthusiasmus überzeugten die den höchst skeptischen Komponisten: Diesen Freitag feiert Roger Waters opulentes Klassik-Werk Premiere in Posen.
„Die beiden haben vor allem die Themen Freiheit, Gleichheit und Brüderlichkeit aus der Französischen Revolution interessiert - und sie haben sie in Beziehung gesetzt zum Arbeiteraufstand in Posen vor 50
Jahren“, sagte Waters im PNP-Interview. „Es ist eine große Ehre für mich, dass die beiden eine Verbindung von der polnischen Geschichte zu meinem Werk
sehen.“
Noch weiß der Komponist nicht, wie die Inszenierung genau aussehen wird, er vertraut auf seinen Regisseur:
„Janusz kann die Komposition perfekt erfühlen. Er hat die nötige Begeisterung und das Talent. Und nach dem, was ich bisher gesehen habe, wird das eine spektakuläre Aufführung.“ Zusätzlich zu Solisten, Chor und Orchester werden Akrobaten die Show ergänzen, ein Teil des
Bühnenbilds wird direkt in den Nachthimmel projiziert. „Ich weiß nicht, ob das auch für meine Musik gilt, aber ich glaube, dass Musik die Menschen bessern
kann“, sagt Roger Waters. „Seit Pythagoras wissen wir, dass Musik nur Mathematik ist - und unsere Reaktion auf die Musik ist die Reaktion auf die Mathematik der Schönheit der Welt. Ich bin nicht religiös, aber ich fühle ein starkes Band zwischen den Wundern der Welt: Musik ist der einfachste Weg, unser Bewusstsein mit der Mathematik des Universums zu
verbinden.“

POZNAN, Poland (AFP) - The world premiere of a classical opera written by Roger Waters, ex-frontman of the Pink Floyd rock group, was to open in Poland, realising the musician's long held ambition to stage a spectacle inspired by the French
revolution.
His eyes bright with enthusiasm, Waters, grey-haired and wearing a dark blue baseball cap, told AFP Friday he was excited that his project, conceived 17 years ago, would finally come to life in, of all places, this western Polish city.
"It's amazing," said the 62-year-old British musician as he surveyed the final rehearsals of his opera, entitled "Ca Ira" in French, and subtitled "There is Hope" in English.
In 1989, Waters' friend Etienne Roda-Gil, a French poet and songwriter, and his wife Nadine, approached him with a 50-page libretto inspired by the 1789 French revolution.
They asked Waters to compose the music. Fascinated by the idea, he produced a first draft in six weeks.
The original aim was to produce an opera that would launch grand ceremonies in Paris marking the bicentenary of the French revolution.
But the plan didn't work out, although "it came very close," said Waters.After a gap of six years, he set to work again on the piece. It was released on CD, in both English and French, last year, when it also debuted as a classical concert in Rome.
Waters -- who made his name in the 1970s with Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon", which remained on Billboard entertainment magazine's charts for 14 years -- needed a promoter adventurous enough to mount a purely classical opera penned by a giant of rock music.
He found his answer in a former communist country of Eastern Europe."The mayor of Poznan was looking for an original idea to mark the crushing of a workers' revolt by the communist regime which took place in this town in June 1956," said Polish promoter Marek Szpendowski.
Szpendowski came up with the idea of staging an open-air production of Waters' opera. The Poznan city authorities agreed to pay 10 percent of the total investment of 5.5 million zlotys (1.4 million euros, 1.8 million dollars).
For Waters, who comes from a leftwing family, the city of Poznan has personal significance.
"My mother left the Communist party (in Britain) in 1956 after the uprising here (in Poznan) and of course after the Hungarian uprising" of the same year, the musician told AFP.
The premiere Friday evening is being held in front of an audience of 12,000. Some 380 artists including soloists, choir members and actors are taking part in the spectacle, which will be accompanied by fireworks.
They will recreate the 1789 revolt of Parisians against French King Louis XVI, their fight for liberty, and the terror that followed.
During the show, projected images will depict revolutions and the brutal repressions that accompanied them from 1789 to the present day, including events in Poznan, where more than 70 people died in the workers' revolt against the communist authorities 50 years ago.
The opera's producer, Janusz Jozefowicz, understood that the work is a "universal piece about the need of change, the fight of the people for human rights," Waters said.
The musician said that the lessons of the French revolution should not be neglected. "We seem to have forgotten the lessons of that piece of history. And in the West we allowed a new hierarchy to develop, where there is an economic and social elite which feels directly connected to God in the same way that the (royal) dynasty felt they were in 18th century France.
"They control and own 95 percent of the wealth, even in the developed western countries. We are still struggling for a more equitable share of the cake, which was obviously central in the unrest in France at the end of the 18th century." Waters' fans who were unable to travel to Poland will have a chance to see his opera in locations across Europe next year, when at least 16 open-air productions are
planned.

Details zu den Vorbereitungen des Stücks verraten. Die Opernfassung
seines Klassik-Albums, die den Arbeiteraufstand von 1956 im
westpolnischen Posen zum Inhalt hat, solle die Gefühle des
polnischen Produktionsteams gegenüber der damaligen kommunistischen
Herrschaft widerspiegeln, sagte den frühere Bassist der Gruppe Pink
Floyd am Montag vor Journalisten in Warschau. Die Musik zu "Ca
Ira" habe er in Anlehnung an ein Libretto von Etienne und
Nadine Roda-Gil über die französische Revolution ersonnen.

09.05.2006: WARSAW (Reuters) Poland will stage the world premiere performance of an opera by Pink Floyd's Roger Waters as part of commemorations in July of a brutal communist-era
crackdown.
"Ca Ira," an operatic history of the French Revolution, took the Pink Floyd
singer, bass player and songwriter 16 years to write. The music from the opera was played publicly for the first time at a concert in Rome last
year.
"I'm very moved that I can play music here ... after your struggle for
freedom," Waters told reporters in Warsaw.
The 400-person-strong performance of the opera will be staged in the western Polish city of
Poznan, which 50 years ago witnessed one of the communist bloc's first organized
strikes.
Its bloody crackdown was followed by similar protests in Hungary, which led to a Soviet-led military invasion
there, also in 1956.
"This is a modern story about freedom and people who are looking for
freedom," said Jozef Jozefowicz, who will direct the opera, which will be translated into Polish and set in Poland.
Waters, the creative force behind classic Pink Floyd albums like
"Dark side of the Moon" and "The Wall," said he hoped the opera would later be staged in Paris and other European
capitals.
