Roger has Laser!

We went to see Roger for the fifth time this tour in Arnhem Gelredome were he played for 30.000 people yesterday. I’m not a big fan from stadium concerts manly because they are built for sport events and not for playing music. But the sound wasn’t bad at all a bit hollow and the band played pretty smooth. I felt like the were working through there setlist which didn’t change a note since last time I saw them I don’t understand that he plays every night the same list a bit on the safe side if you ask me.

I was hoping he would play some more or different songs from Animals like pigs or some more solo work a Roger Waters concert with just 2 Solo songs and all Pink Floyd songs Is very safe for me. And with this bigger concerts he is playing now looks like he is going totally commercial. Well Maybe I’m just spoiled I loved the intimacy from the Locarno gig on a small square or even the Ahoy In Rotterdam think that suites the music way better. But Sheep was still great to hear live and with the radiographic controlled pig this time. The show has developed with all the new footage and my favourite part must have been the last songs from dark side also with the new prism and laser effects Pink Floyd worthy. I liked Dave Kilminster his guitar work he plays very well and isn’t so much the show man as in the beginning of the tour.

But with songs like Comfortably Numb I miss the magic there but again its played very well and its probably just me seeing it played by David Gilmour so many times last year .It was a great concert never the less butt I miss songs like It’s A Miracle or What God Wants or stuff from Radio Kaos or Pros and Cons of Hitchiking. Roger didn’t say much but thanked the Dutch audience for there support during all the years. I hope next time if

Things Have Changed.

Waters spielte in Arnheim im „Gelredome“, dem dortigen Fußballstadion. Es handelt sich dabei um ein überdachtes Fußballstadion ohne nennenswerte architektonische Gestaltung und Atmosphäre mit einer Kapazität von 25.000 Zuschauern. Der Innenraum war eng „gepackt“, es könnten meiner Meinung nach auch gut 30.000 oder noch mehr Zuschauer gewesen sein. Damit ist Waters’ „Dark Side of the Moon“-Tour endgültig (nach Südamerika jetzt auch in Europa) im Stadionformat angekommen. Schon ein Unterschied zu den Shows in „Arena“-Größe mit etwa 15.000 Zuschauern. Interessant zu sehen, wo Waters doch zu Beginn seines Bühnencombacks 1999 immer wieder von der „Magie“ der kleinen Konzerte und seiner Ablehnung vom Stadionrock sprach…

Trotz dieser Umstände legten Waters & Band eine beigeisternde Show hin – mit Hilfe von vier großen Leinwänden, die dem Publikum einen Eindruck vom entfernten Bühnengeschehen vermittelten. Die Show war perfekt gespielt, besondern gut gefielen mir an diesem Abend die Gitarrenarbeit von Snowy White – sein Solo in Leaving Beirut war unglaublich mitreissend. Schön war es auch, das Konzert mal aus der Ferne zu erleben: die im Vergleich zu vielen anderen Shows fast minimalistische und theatralische Lichteregie kommt mit wenigen Grundfarben und einigen gut gesetzten Spots aus. Die Quadrophonieeffekte und Filme beziehen auch das Publikum auf den entfernten Tribünen gut mit ein.

Die Laserpyramide ist aus der Entfernung ein toller Lichteffekt. Im Hamburg saß ich direkt darunter und habe diesen schönen Effekt kaum wahrgenommen – Es ist ein großartiger Schlusspunkt für DSotM, wenn die spektralfarbene Lichtwand aus dem Prisma die Halle kreisend durchmisst...ein Floyd-würdiger Abschuss für das reguläre Set.

Waters sagte am Ende vor den Zugaben: “Thank you. It means a lot tu us. The Dutch audiencens were always great. we remember them from the late sixties and the early seventies, [the netherlands] were always our home away from home.... “
